Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and Ignacio Galan, the chairman of ScottishPower's parent company, Iberdrola were invited to a special presentation to celebrate this inaugural moment in the Company’s history. Approached directly by ScottishPower after a decade of providing event solutions for the Company, MCL were delighted to be involved in this special celebration. Asked to provide a wide range of audio and visual products, MCL had to consider the environmental and climatic challenges before deciding of the best course of action for this event. Mindful of the many health and safety regulations to also adhere to, the changeable weather conditions and the exposed area where the presentation was to be held, MCL found themselves constantly in the company of the Met Office to ensure that the appropriate products and correct safety provisions were utilised for this logistically challenging event, detailing alternate solutions for both wet and dry options.
Delivering a bespoke package for ScottishPower, MCL designed and produced a large digi-canvas print, lit internally and created to withstand the high winds that make this area so ideal for wind turbines. The entire presentation was filmed for ScottishPower and for archiving potential with MCL providing full camera channels with complete audio facilities that needed to be of a standard to overcome the high winds of the venue. Persistent rain right up to the start of the presentation made it difficult for rig and set up, but with the weather clearing just in time for the start, Chris Malcolm, Project Manager for MCL was delighted with how the event progressed: “The three day set up for just an hour’s presentation in those conditions challenged the team but they seemed to make short schrift of any issues that may have arisen. It all went according to plan!”.
Keeping to the theme of green MCL’s crew of ten ensured that the job was as carbon neutral as possible, whilst providing full turnkey solutions including utilising MCL’s own transport to the event venue, 85 miles south of Glasgow.
The newly opened wind farms - Arecleoch and Mark Hill in South Ayrshire - have enabled ScottishPower to become the first developer in the UK to achieve one gigawatt (GW) of electricity production capacity from wind power. In order to achieve 1GW of capacity, the company has invested more than £1bn in wind energy over the last decade, employing around 2,000 people have been employed in the construction and management of the company’s windfarms.
